Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday June 06, 2012

FRANCES (FRAN) died on Saturday, June 2, at the age of 65. Fran was born in New Orleans on September 15, 1946, and her parents were Anthony and Eileen (Brosette) Gambino. Fran married the love of her life, Terence L. Schwegler, and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Feb. 23rd of this year. The Air Force moved the Schwegler's to Albuquerque, and they settled in Bernalillo in 1979. Fran worked for social services from 1975 -1976, and then H & R Block as a tax consultant from 1977-1981. She then worked as a substitute teacher while attending UNM. Graduating from UNM in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in education, she went on to receive a master's degree in special education, specializing in learning and behavioral disorders. Passionate about teaching children to read, Fran was certified for K-12 and taught in the Acoma/Laguna Pueblo Schools, St Mary's and San Felipe Catholic schools, Santo Domingo Pueblo schools and Grants High School. Frances joined Hoffmantown Church with her husband in 1984, where she was a faithful servant with the Angel Tree Ministries, and she sponsored many children for summer camps. For the last year of her life, Fran worshiped with Monterey Baptist Church, where she was an active member of a Sunday school class. Fran was a breast cancer survivor, and she lived with Parkinson's Disease for over 23 years. Even though she had these health challenges, Fran remained very active with her friends, church and the community. She and Terry loved America, and they traveled to every state except Alaska. Of all her extensive foreign travels, Fran loved her trip to Jerusalem the most. As a teacher, a Girl Scout Troop leader, and a mother/stepmother of seven children, Fran adored and served children all of her adult life. "Well done, good and faithful servant." Fran, you will be missed!!! Memorial Services will be held at Hoffmantown Church on Thursday, June 7, at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow. Please visit her online guestbook: www.RememberTheirStory.com
