Obituary for BOURNE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday June 03, 2012

CLARA ELIZABETH Age 87, passed away on May 25, six days short of her 88th birthday. She was a dear soul who touched so many people's lives in countless ways, especially through her love of music. Liz was born in Pittsfield, MA, and at the age of 16, moved to New York City to pursue an operatic singing career-eventually auditioning at the NY Metropolitan Opera. In those early years, she performed regularly with her father across Massachusetts and New York, with him accompanying her on the piano. In 1950, she met and married Dr. John Bourne and moved out West living in Oklahoma, Utah, and then New Mexico. For the past 50 years, she's lived in Albuquerque where she's taught piano and blessed so many students with her love of music and personal charm. She also sang and played the piano in many church settings, nursing homes, and social events. Liz loved to read, especially history-related topics. She was extremely generous supporting her Holy Ghost parish, Armed Forces organizations, the Animal Humane Society and many others. Her strong Christian faith and love of the Lord gave her great joy and was a huge part of her life, as were her family and many friends. She is survived by her four children: John (Kathy), Dave (Theresa), Dan (Olivia), and Mary; seven grandchildren: Jason (Annette), Kirsten (Ryan), Jamie (Jason), Meagan, Violet, Courtney, and Jonathan; four great-grandchildren; and her beloved cat Cali. Our dear Liz leaves this world but not our lives. Services will be at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109, on Monday June 4, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Animal Humane Society of NM or a charity of your choice.
