Obituary for CLARK

ROBERT P. Age 76, passed away May 23, 2012 surrounded by his family after a courageous 21 year battle with cancer. Bob was born July 19, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan, to Paul and Ruth Clark. He attended high school in Ypsilanti, Michigan where he was an accomplished tennis player, winning the state championship. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1957 with a Chemistry degree, played varsity tennis, and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. In 1959 he married the love of his life, Peggy Mahoney. After earning his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1961, they moved to Albuquerque, NM, where they raised four children. Bob was employed at Sandia National Laboratories for 35 years where he received multiple patents for his work on advanced batteries. For seventeen years he was a coach and mentor to many young baseball players at Altamont Little League, winning multiple state championships. Over the years he enjoyed golf, tennis, playing guitar, bowling, running, traveling with his family, watching his children and grandchildren's activities and performances, and researching genealogy. He was very active at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon, Elder and the Clerk of Session. Bob served on the board of the Martineztown House of Neighborly Service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother, Charles Clark. He is survived by: his loving wife of 53 years, Peggy Clark; son Robert Clark, Jr. and his children Ryan, Samantha, and Kaitlyn, of Albuquerque; daughter Penny Mack and husband Michael, and daughter Kyara Casillas of Albuquerque; son Kerry Clark and wife Nadine and their triplet children Paul, Brendan, and Katie of Albuquerque; and daughter Susan Pearson and children Aubrey and Macey of Amarillo, TX. The family would like to express their profound gratitude to the staff of Hospice de la Luz, who made the last days of Bob's life as peaceful as possible; and to Dr Clark Haskins and his staff at NMCC. A celebration of life will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, located at Carlisle and Silver, SE on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Sandia Memorial Gardens.
