ARTHUR JOHN "JACK" May God welcome the soul of Jack Steck who passed on May 3, 2012 at age 91. Jack was born on January 3, 1921 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. A veteran of WWII, Jack served in the United States Navy from 1942-1945. Following his Naval service, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulsa University, and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. In 1948, Jack moved to Anthony, New Mexico to begin his teaching career at the Gadsen School District and continued teaching at the Carlsbad Public Schools. Later he moved to the Albuquerque Public Schools where he served as a Guidance Counselor until retirement. He was genuinely curious about social affairs and had an encyclopedic knowledge of New Mexican history and politics. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Steck (nee Price); daughters, Julianne Steck of Aztec, New Mexico and Anita Steck of Silverton, Colorado; grandchildren, AJ Delap (Kristin), Trey Delap both of Henderson, Nevada, Rusty Melcher (Lisa Adair) and TJ Melcher, both of Silverton, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Julianne Delap, Jack Delap, both of Henderson, Nevada, and Marie Melcher of Silverton, Colorado. We express our profound gratitude to the staff of Zia Hospice and Casa de Shalom, for their extraordinarily compassionate care. We believe you are cut of the cloth of angels. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 26, 2012. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Jack's name to the All Faiths Receiving Home of Albuquerque, 1709 Moon Street NE, 87112 or Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Ave, NE, 87110.
