He was predeceased in death by sisters Dola Gonzales, Deanna Jaramillo, and Dora Vergo. Ed graduated from Albuquerque High School and later attended Junior College in California. In 1960 he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Corporal. Ed was a sea-going Marine and a traveled domestically and internationally aboard U.S. Navy ships. Ed was proud of his service to his country and often spoke of his time in foreign ports. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, and had a son, Scott Luckey. Ed married Lucy Suarez in San Diego, California and had three sons, Anthony Garcia, Edward "Teddy" Garcia, and Reuben Garcia, all of California. Ed returned to New Mexico and in 1989 met former Secretary of State Shirley Hooper. In August 1990, they married in Hobbs. They also lived in Lovington and in Santa Fe for many years. In 2010, Ed and Shirley moved to Roswell. Ed was a member of Grace Community Church of Roswell and was to be trained for one of their ministries. Ed was a life-long learner. As a young man, his father taught him to be a master painter and he used those skills all throughout his life. After his Marine Corps service, for many years he worked at the Southern Pacific Telephone Company and was a minister to young military servicemen in San Diego. After returning to New Mexico, he went into sales and worked as a representative for Mobile Medical & Safety which later became Cintas. In 2002, he became a Master Hypnotist, as well as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and during many New Mexico Legislative sessions he worked for the Senate Security office. He thoroughly enjoyed home entertainment systems, computers, and other electronics and was especially talented at computer and other repairs, and enjoyed doing repair work for his family and friends. Ed will be terribly missed by all. He was a loving and supporting husband who was devoted to his family. He offered assistance, inspiration and encouragement to people he met, especially the less-fortunate and the young people, to always pursue their dreams. Realizing that education, love, and inspiration were keys to young people's successes, his dream was to be financially successful enough to build and operate a facility for young people to go for inspiration and fellowship.
