Obituary for LOPEZ

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Wednesday May 09, 2012

SOCORRO M. Age 89, Beloved mother and grandmother was called to the Lord's side on May, 5, 2012. She was born on July 3, 1922 at home in the small town of Rowe NM and lived all of her adult life in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lopez of Santa Fe, NM; son, James J. Lopez of San Jose, CA; sisters Aurella Bustos and Piedad Padilla. She is survived by her son Frank Lopez; daughter Effie Ortiz, daughter Barbara Valencia; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson Justin. Socorro was a devout Catholic who enjoyed life to the best of her abilities. As a stay-at-home grandmother she provided generations of family with security and tireless sacrifice. She gave and taught all of us empathy, compassion, and love. Last but not least, she also blessed us with the joy of a warm, made-from-scratch, tortilla. Socorro enjoyed a life, always surrounded and loved by generations of her family. We all got to see a side of her that was often ornery and mischievous but sometimes, when she sat pensive and quiet, her beautiful wrinkled face held all the vulnerable innocence of a young child. I cherish every moment I got to share with you grandma, now go and enjoy your well deserved peace. Como te dihe grandma, Te tengo siempre en mi corazon We love you Suki.
