Obituary for THOMAS

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday May 06, 2012

GEORGE L. George was born outside Winfield, Kansas on August 12, 1912 to George and Ethel Thomas. He was the tenth of thirteen children, and the first in his family to graduate from high school. He served in the Army during WWII, and was chosen to be one of the Military Governors in Germany after the war. He returned in 1947 and wed the love of his life, Gerry, and they began their family in Indiana. They eventually settled in Denver where they raised their children and lived for over 40 years. George worked well into his 70's, mostly as a salesman for various companies, and eventually came to own his own company. A move to Albuquerque in 1997 brought the couple closer to their adult children and three grandchildren. George was preceded in death by his wife Gerry, infant daughter Mary Alice, and all of his siblings. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Thomas-Salazar and husband, Charlie; son Van of Santa Fe; grandchildren, Sean Millard, Michaela and Lucas Salazar; neices and nephews and their families; and many close friends, including many staff members and residents of Manzano del Sol, who became "family" after Gerry passed away. He was known as a hard worker, a good friend, a story teller, a strong, proud, and dapper 99 year old who considered himself lucky in life. He will be missed greatly. A celebration of George's life will take place Friday May 11th at 2pm in the chapel at Manzano del Sol, 5201 Roma Ave. NE. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Good Samaritan Society, Manzano del Sol, 5201 Roma Ave. NE, ATTN: Amanda Duarte. Please specify that your gift is in honor of George Thomas.
