CATHERINE Age 69, passed away peacefully April 28, 2012 in Albuquerque, NM after a lengthy illness. Born in Puerto de Luna, NM, raised in Littlefield, TX. After high school she joined Franciscan Sisters of Mary Immaculate in Amarillo, TX. Catherine earned a B.A. in Sociology at Incarnate Word University, San Antonio, TX; M.A. in Theology and Religious Education with specialization in Family Ministry, Fordham University, NY. Additional education at Loyola University, Los Angeles; Notre Dame; Catholic University of America, Washington, DC; West Texas University, Canyon, TX and Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX. She served as Director of Religious Education, Dioceses of Lubbock, TX and Archdiocese of Santa Fe, NM and a board member of the National Conference of Catechetical Leaders, Washington, DC and Mexican American Cultural Center, San Antonio, TX, also a member of the National Organization of Catechesis for Hispanics. Catherine taught in California and Texas, principal of Christ the King Cathedral School, Lubbock, TX. Presented numerous workshops and seminars; organized conferences in pastoral ministry, catechesis and RCIA throughout the Southwest; wrote articles for Catechist Magazine; cultural editorial consultant for Silver Burdett Religion Publishers; Advisory Board Member for TRIO, Organ and Tissue Transplant Services of New Mexico; a member of Jewish-Catholic Dialogue of Albuquerque. After a liver transplant in 1996 she continued for 16 more years serving Church, God, and people, sharing with incredible energy the great gifts with which she was blessed: wisdom, creativity, generosity and love. She loved being with family and friends and will be greatly missed by the many who knew her and whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio and Louisa Abeyta and brother Patrick. She is survived by her loving husband of 11 years, Joe I. Sena; his son, Tommy (Nicole) Sena and daughter, Juanita (Len) Tartaglia; seven grandchildren; brother Emilio (Eloisa) of Lubbock, TX; sisters, Molly (Robert) Martinez of Littlefield, TX and Maxine of Lubbock TX and many nieces and nephews. Rosary at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd NW on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 9:00 am at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church; Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be scheduled later in Lubbock, TX. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all for their kindness and support.
