Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday March 09, 2012

JOHN Age 35, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away suddenly on March 4, 2012. John's primary parent was Cindy Smith who raised him from the age of nine until her death when John was 27. He grew up with three foster siblings, Kelley, Tanya, and Anthony, and attended Manzano High School. When John was 20, he became a member of a residential community for people with developmental disabilities run by ARCA. At the age of 28, he moved into a new home run by Maxcare. After Cindy's death in 2003 her surviving partner, Dr. Christina Vento, became his Guardian and parent. For the last seven years Dr. Vento has shared the joys and responsibilities of parenting John with her current partner, Chris Snyder. John had a keen sense of humor and touched numerous lives in his community. He had a zest for living and enjoyed movies, singing, dancing, bargain shopping at garage sales, fishing, and doing charity walks. John was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Watermelon Mountain Ranch. He was employed part time through A Better Way of Living and received case management support with Selena Emener through Amigo Case Management. Cremation is planned and a Celebration of John's Life will be held at French - Lomas Chapel at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 with a light reception to follow.
