CORA (PATTERSON) Of Danville, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Manor Care Health in Avon, Ind. Born May 29, 1937 in Albuquerque, N.M., she was the daughter of Ray and Marie Patterson. Cora moved to Danville in 1999 to join her two son's Ron and Rick and grandson Laurin and their families'. Cora, never one to be a stranger for long, was known for making acquaintances throughout the community; often times at the local grocery store where she worked as that cute old sample lady in her later years. Despite her reluctance to drive on the freeway, Cora was a meter reader for PNM in Albuquerque for 12 years. Cora spent her days strategically avoiding highways while being a talkative friend to many along her route until she retired in 1998. When her children were younger, Cora was an active member of the PTA, a scout leader for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and was also an avid soccer mom and grandma; never without a camera in her hand. Cora could also often be seen at baseball practices, games and tournaments relentlessly cheering on her grandchildren. Survivors include sons, Ron (Lisa) Dawes and Rick (Kathy) Dawes of Danville, Ind.; grandson Laurin (Angie) Dawes of Danville, Ind.; seven other grandchildren; and 11 1/2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna McCarty; mother and father, Ray and Marie Patterson; brothers Ray Patterson and James Patterson; and her sister, Mildred Bowman. Cora elected to have her body donated to science to further research Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, the genetic condition that led to her passing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alpha-1 Association at: www.alpha1.org
