Obituary for ORTEGA

MARY J. Age 91, of Albuquerque passed away on February 17, 2012 at Ladera Nursing Home in Albuquerque, after a long illness. She was born on March 24,1921 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to Edward and Marina (Mares) Korte. Mary had five brothers and sisters including one surviving brother, Fred Korte originally of Las Vegas, NM and more currently of Albuquerque. Mary is survived by two sons, Edward M. (Max) Ortega and wife Fella of Albuquerque, and Ernest E.(Gene) Ortega and wife Monica also of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Jeannine Arnold of Moriarty, Lori Ortega of Pasadena, CA, and Eddie and wife Kelly of Albuquerque. She also has one great-grandchild, Joshua R. Arnold of Moriarty. Mary also leaves behind numerous brothers and sisters' in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. She also had more than 20 Godchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Canuto Ortega and one daughter, Maxine. Mary was a very giving person who cared for members of her own family and Canuto's family. She was a resident of Albuquerque and faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish since 1952. Before moving to Albuquerque, Mary and Canuto lived in Santa Rosa, NM where they made many long lasting friends. A rosary will be said at 9:30 a.m. immediately followed by a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, on Saturday February 25, 2012, A luncheon reception will be served immediately after the mass at the American Federation of Teachers Union Hall, 530 Jefferson Street Northeast Albuquerque, NM 87108.
