Obituary for DANA

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday February 24, 2012

BONNIE Was called home on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. How can we begin to share a life in a few words - life that changed countless others? She met the love of her life, Mike, when she was 18, and he asked her to marry him that night. Who can blame him? Everyone who met her described her as beautiful, in every sense of the word. It described her countenance, always full of the love of Jesus. It described her home that she always so graciously opened to others. And it described her heart, which was always ready to serve those she loved. Bonbon was the definition of a servant. For as long as any of us can remember, she poured herself out on behalf of others. For her husband, who she adored, and whose romance was one for the movies. For her kids, Corrie and Eric, who learned from her all about Jesus and family - "the most important things." For her mom, who she cared for with Christlike selflessness until her last day. And for her grandkids, for whom she made countless trips between Dallas and Albuquerque. Through family tragedy, and a battle with cancer that lasted over a decade, she never complained, she never quit serving, and she never quit being an inspiration. For her granddaughters Dana and Callie, she hosted regal tea parties on real china, and later taught by her example how to embody class, grace, and beauty, and to serve and love others, no matter the circumstances. For her grandsons Eric, Alex, and Max, who she could always amaze with her encyclopedic knowledge of Ivanhoe, Robin Hood, and all things adventurous, she was a stunning example of tough-as-nails grit as she endured more and more, braving every challenge that faced her so that she could be with those she loved. So we'll remember her for how cute she was, how tough she was, how beautiful she was. But she changed lives because of how much like Jesus she was. She let Him lead in everything, and for that very reason, there is an amazing reunion in Heaven today. She's with her savior, and her mama, and her buddy Alex. And while we wait to join in on that reunion, we'll strive to live by the amazing example she gave. Thank you, Bonbon, for how you loved us. Services celebrating Bonnie's life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012, 1:00 p.m., at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Rd. NE.
