LILA LANE Passed away peacefully at her daughter's and son-in-law's home in New Orleans, LA on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. She had suffered a severe stroke in July. She was born in Hagerman, NM, February 23, 1921 to Alberta Johnson Lane and Edwin Eddy Lane, who were pioneer farmers and ranchers in Hagerman. She was the fourth of their five children, Edwin, Evelyn, Beatrice, Lila, and Blanche. She graduated from high school in Hagerman and from Park College in Parkville, Missouri. She returned to Hagerman where she taught school. After World War II she moved to Albuquerque and taught school there where she met her future husband Charles Stephen Roger of Napoleonville, LA. They married in Hagerman in 1950 and settled in Albuquerque. They had two children, Patricia and Stephen. Lila stayed home to raise her children, then returned to school to study Library Science and became a children's librarian at Albuquerque Public Library, then at Bellehaven, Atrisco, and Acoma schools, a job she really enjoyed, particularly reading stories to children and sparking their interest in reading. She was a devoted member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church, serving as both deacon and elder, as well as running the church library. Lila loved riding horses, playing bridge, gardening, sewing, reading, entertaining friends and relatives, and travelling. She was an accomplished equestrian, seamstress, and bridge player, a gracious hostess, and a world traveler. She is survived by her sister Blanche Tompkins; daughter Patricia Roger; son-in-law Michael Ward; grandsons Peter Ward, Nathaniel Ward; granddaughter Amelia Ward; granddaughter-in-law Quynh Pham; great-grandchildren Azalea and Nathan; nieces, nephews, and many friends. Her family and friends will remember her as one who cared for her family and friends, strove to do good in the world, stayed busy, and enjoyed life. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 18, at 1:00 PM at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper Ave, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
