OSCAR NICHOLAS 1925 - 2012. He was born in El Paso, Texas to parents, Espiridion and Maria Muro. He joined the Navy in August of 1943. As a proud member of the SEABEES and he traveled on board the USS Saratoga to Johnston Island in the South Pacific. As a SEABEE, he gained the skills that shaped his life. He began his civilian career as a painter; his ambitions lead him to Albuquerque, where he served as a Veterans Service Officer for the State of New Mexico. His passion to assist those in need lead to his involvement as a life member in the American Legion as Commander of Post 99 in Albuquerque. He also served in the D.A.V., V.F.W. and as State Commander of AMVETS. His love for his children was a testament to his life. He truly lived the American dream. His passions included family, travel, community service and fishing. He loved taking his grandchildren on adventures and connecting with friends and family. Oscar is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Maria Moreno Muro; children, Rose and Duke Thornton of Albuquerque, Irene and Henry Sutton of Ruidoso, Grace and Larry Gaskey of Dallas, TX, Annette Day of San Antonio, TX, Oscar J. Muro, of Irvine, CA and Eddie and Stephanie Muro of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren; 11 great- grandchildren; brother, Alfonso Muro; and sisters, Lola Salazar and Gloria Groves. Oscar was preceded in death by one infant son, Oscar Muro Jr.; one daughter, Delia Muro Witten; four brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at French Lomas Chapel, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee.
