Obituary for ESQUIVEL

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday February 09, 2012

MEDARDO "MEL" Age 78, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012. He is survived by his son, Martin Esquivel and his wife, Pauline of Albuquerque; daughter, Karla Esquivel of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren, Graciela, Marisa, Carlos Jay and Aurelia. He is also survived by sisters Femia Bustamante and Marian Esquibel of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugenio and Emilia Esquibel of Socorro; sisters, Bennie DeGeer, Lola Nabors and Ruth Esquibel; and brothers, Barney Esquibel and Silvestre Esquibel. The youngest of eight children, he was raised in La Joya and Socorro, NM. After graduating from Socorro High School, he served in the Korean War and attended the University of New Mexico on the GI bill where he received a degree in economics -- the first in his family to do so. He became a well respected real estate appraiser in Santa Fe. His wise decision to better himself with an education after serving his country was very important in his children's and grandchildren's success as college became an expectation and not merely a hope. We love, honor and appreciate him. Funeral arrangements through Reflections Funerals and Life Celebrations are pending. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation in his name at P.O. Box 25704, Albuq., NM 87125.
