Obituary for CHAVEZ

LUCY C. Lucy left for her heavenly home on Sunday, February 5. Luz Concepcion Romero was born to Bernabe and Frances Romero in Santa Fe, and graduated from Loretto Academy. Lucy loved life and people, and her sense of humor, love of fun, infectious laugh and personality won over the hearts of co-workers, friends and family all her life. Lucy worked for many years for the State of New Mexico and the College of Santa Fe. It was at CSF that she took under her wing and influenced many students who worked for her in the work-study program. Lucy served as La Reina de la Fiesta de Santa Fe in 1946, and was a member of La Club Real. She was involved in community activities when the family lived in Espanola, and loved their time there. Lucy was married to the late Bennie Chavez for 42 years until his death in 1989. Their daughter, Frances Chavez Diener, preceded her in death in 2009. Lucy is survived by her daughter Sylvia Tarro and her husband, Jim; daughter Rosaline Wright; son Bernard Chavez and his wife Juli; daughter Bernice Fink and her husband, Barry; and son Robert and his wife, Katie. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tanya Woodward and Jamie Chapman; Monica Gonzales and Luz Piccinino; Rudy Lopez and Daniel Wright; Andrea, Ben and Cassie Rose Chavez; Reina, Christian and Liana Fink; Melissa Chavez; great-grandchildren, Eva Rose Lopez and Grace Piccinino; and her brother, Bernabe Romero,Jr. and his wife, Amelia; her sister, Theresa Romero. A Rosary will be recited on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 12:00 noon in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi followed by the Funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Santa Fe National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14. Jim Tarro, Barry Fink, John Romero, Rudy Padilla, Ron Romero, Brian Romero, Damian Romero will serve as pallbearers.
