Obituary for ORTIZ

TONY Age 83, was a life long NM resident, passed away on Monday, 1/09/12. Tony was a beloved Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and friend too many. He is survived by his wife Erlinda; sons and daughters, Cruz Ortiz, Susana Baca and husband Joe, Alex Madrid, Victor Ortiz and wife Mary, Olivia Ortiz, Isabel Rodriguez and husband Richard, Dennis Ortiz and wife Josie, and Donna Turrietta and husband Andrew. He had 21 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers; two sisters; and his first wife Ramona. Tony was a devoted Catholic, an active member of St. Anne's Parish, a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 14124, and the Assoc. of San Jose of Torreon. Tony and his wife Erlinda were the recipients of the St. Francis of Assisi award. He was a member of numerous Veterans organizations, DAV, Trench Rats, VFW, and the American Legion. He was an active volunteer for the VA and the 22 91st US Army Reserves Family Support Group. He served his country during the Korean War. Tony retired from the City of Alb. and the State of NM after 30 years of service. A Special Thank You to Dr. Haskins and the compassionate staff at NM Cancer and Oncology Center who cared for him for 11 years, and the VA medical Staff and a special Thank You to Dr. Forester. A special Thank You to Father Nick and the St Anne's parish staff for always being available. A Rosary will be held on Friday, 1/13/12 at 6:30 p.m., at St. Anne's Catholic Church on 1400 Arenal SW, reception to follow in the parish hall. Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, 1/14/12 at 11:00am at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Interment following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery and return to St. Anne's Parish hall. Gabaldon Mortuary in charge of the arrangements, 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW.
