Obituary for BENN

TED MERL SR. Passed away on January 5, 2012 in Dallas, Texas, at age 89. Ted was born March 1, 1922 in Seattle, WA to Annie Marie Montana and Donald Benn. He graduated from Edmonds High School in Edmonds, WA in 1940, and served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1950. During World War II he flew 35 combat missions as a B-17 navigator. Ted attended the University of Washington from 1940-1941 and the University of Texas from 1948-1950 and spent the majority of his career working for the U.S. Government. He served with the U.S. Immigration Service in postings in Montana, Illinois, Arizona, Michigan and Calgary, Alberta. From 1967-1972, Ted was an advisor with the U.S. State Department and was stationed in Monrovia, Liberia and Saigon, Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Immigration Service in 1983 and moved to Chelan, WA. He relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1995 and to Dallas, Texas in 2011. He is survived and will be missed by his children and their spouses, Judy Benn, Bangkok, Thailand, Ted Benn, Jr. and wife Sue, Dallas and Kristina Benn Kominek and husband Rick, Albuquerque; as well as grandchildren Davis, Zane, Parker, Seth, Maggie Mei and Ashton. He is also survived by his brother Donald M. Benn, Edmonds, WA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13th 10:45 a.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
