CARNIS HIGHTOWER departed this world on December 23, 2011 at the age of 97. She will be remembered as wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and community activist. Carnis was preceded in death by Oliver, her husband of 51 years. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia and Olivia Salisbury; two grandsons, Brandon Bailey and Sean Harris, all of Albuquerque; special niece, Janice Hightower of San Jose, NM; two great-grandchildren, Dontrell and A'isha Bailey; sister, Vivian Wiley of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers William and Edward Hightower of Washington D. C.; as well as a host of other family, and many, many friends who love and will miss her. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church located at 3715 Silver SE, Albuquerque NM. Carnis' ashes will be committed on Monday, January 16, 2011 at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the African American Museum and Cultural Center of New Mexico (AAMCCNM) in care of Ms. Rita Powdrell , President, 5209 4th NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
