Obituary for ESPALIN

QUIRINO G. Age 89, beloved father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 24, 2011. He was born in Alameda, NM and was a resident of Albuquerque. Quirino proudly served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during in the Battle of the Bulge (Rhineland) and D-Day (Normandy) battles, and was decorated with a total of four Bronze Stars and a Distinguished Unit Badge. After serving in the military, he joined the local Carpenters Union and became a gifted carpenter. He was a loving father and devoted husband never leaving his wife Lucy's side. Quirino loved and served our Lord Jesus Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Espalin; his mother Ana Maria Espalin-Griego; and father, Esmael Griego. Quirino is survived by sons, Abel and wife Anna, Larry and wife Virginia; five grandchildren, Abel Jr. and wife Ramona, Stephanie and husband Johnny Ortega, Stacie, Isaac and Matthew Espalin; and two great-grandchildren, Jalen and Emma Marie. Also surviving are his brothers, Leopoldo and Jake Griego; sisters, Elizabeth (Liz) Candelaria, Antonia Lovato, Lucarita Quintana, Gloria Klaube and husband Mike; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Quirino will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services - Alameda Mortuary, 9420 Fourth St. NW, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St Josephs Drive NW, (off of Coors across from St. Pius). Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Isaac Espalin, Matthew Espalin, Abel Espalin, Jr., Justin Perea, Joey Gutierrez, Sr., and Joshua Perea. Honorary Bearers will be Polo Griego and Jake Griego. Military Honors will be accorded by the New Mexico US Honor Guard.
