MARIAN Born March 8, 1929 in York, Nebraska, daughter of Fred and Bertha Meyer, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2011 in Albuquerque. Marian enjoyed her years teaching in Europe and living among the local people while traveling in Spain, Italy, and Germany on weekends; and longer trips to Holland, England, Tangier, Portugal, France and West Berlin. Back in the states, Marian enjoyed her summer vacations in Minnesota racing her sailboat on Bald Eagle Lake. Racing ended when her husband, Gordon was transferred to Denver and the family moved to a new home in a community in the Cherry Creek School District. Marian was involved with planning and organizing a new school in the neighborhood. She was elected first president of the PTA and worked toward involving the community in use of the building and understanding the concept of education in an open space classroom. Again a transfer brought the family to Albuquerque and again Marian spent time as a volunteer in the office at Del Norte High School. She always enjoyed playing bridge and now could join ACBL, and attain the rank of Bronze Life Master. Marian was a member of Faith in Christ Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council as Financial Secretary for two years. Marian is survived by her daughter, Mary of Lake Forest, CA; three nieces, Gail Mears of Littleton CO, Susan Schrader of Northglenn, CO, and Barbara Duncanson of South Bend, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 31 years, Gordon; and sisters, Lois Anderson and Ellen Kaeding. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2011, 1:00 p.m., at Faith in Christ Lutheran Church, 1750 Faith Ct. NE.
