Obituary for HUBBARD

JAMES MERRICK 1921 - 2011 Was born in 1921 to Alfred Tracy Hubbard and Pauline McMichael Hubbard in Aztec, NM. After attending school in Roswell, he graduated from high school in Durango, CO, and then moved to Albuquerque with his sister, Eloise, in order to attend UNM. While attending UNM, he met Lorraine Sterling and the two began a dating relationship that was interrupted by World War II. Jim enlisted in the Army Air Corp, where he wore the wings of both the US Army and the Royal Air Force. He spent the majority of the war time stateside as a First Lieutenant training both American and British pilots to fly. He was a proud pilot of the B-17, B-26 and B-25. He married his sweetheart, Lorraine, on October 5, 1943 - a marriage that lasted 68 years. At the conclusion of the war, Jim was hired as a salesman for Swift and Company Meat Packers, where he would be employed for the next 35 years. In 1980, when Swift and Co. closed their fresh meat division, Jim remained in Albuquerque employed in meat sales with a local company until he retired in 1984. Jim Hubbard was a Christian, an active churchman and a Mason. He was an Emeritus Member of the governing body of the Order of DeMolay, a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, and served as Master of Albuquerque Lodge #60 AF and AM. He was a long term member of Gideon's International, distributing Bibles to many individuals and locations. He was a member of Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church for a number of years. Jim passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 20, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sons, Jim (wife Karen) of Grand Prairie, TX; Bill (wife Debbie) of Albuquerque; sister, Eloise Young of Albuquerque; and nephew, Bob Young (wife Kathleen) of Diamond Springs, CA. Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011, 3:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park with Pastor Don Wilson officiating.
