Obituary for MILLER

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday October 02, 2011

EDWIN T. Born September 4, 1946, went peacefully home to the Lord on September 9, 2011, following a short illness. He was surrounded by his loving family as his soul took flight. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edwin Miller and Dorothy Alice Nutt Miller. Ed is survived by his wife, Saundra L. Miller; daughter, Erika D. Miller; son-in-law, Christopher R. Johnston; and the apple of his eye, his beloved and cherished grandson, Sebastian Xavier Johnston. He is also survived by his sister, Heidi L. Adelman and husband Ken; brothers, Charles M. Miller and wife Laurie, and James J. Miller; as well as many nieces and nephews. Ed was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country with pride. Ktech Corporation (n/k/a Raytheon Ktech) was fortunate to hire Ed away from Dynalectron Corporation in September of 1981 where he provided logistics support for the Air Force Weapons Lab EMP testing at the Trestle, Horizontal Pulsed Dipole, and the Vertical Pulsed Dipole. Ed started his Ktech career in Area V where he performed similar duties supporting many Sandia facilities such as HERMES II, Proto I, Proto II, SPEED, HydraMite and REBA. He worked with SNL team members and numerous contractors from various companies. In mid 1987, when Saturn was preparing to come on line for its first shot, Ed was reassigned to support Saturn and eventually all of STL in Area IV, where he remained over the next 25 years. Throughout his service within AGT Operations Ed took on many new responsibilities, most importantly his assuming the ES&H duties after the first visit by the Tiger Team. Ed became a certified Occupational Safety and Health Technician in approximately 1992 and assumed all department compliance requirements and training responsibilities, as well as hazardous waste disposal duties. He will be missed by all of his friends and co-workers, many whom he supported their entire careers. Ed was an award winning brewer and enjoyed riding motorcycles with his daughter, whom he adored and delighted in. He loved traveling to Louisiana and embraced the Cajun culture, music, food and his many Cajun friends. Ed will be missed very much by his family and friends, but we take comfort knowing we will be reunited with him in time. Burial has taken place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A Memorial Service in Albuquerque is pending. "You Made it Dad! I'm So Happy For You."
