ELMER C. Died July 31st at his home in Littleton, CO. He was 90 years old, born in Worland, WY on February 1, 1921, to Fred C. Sproul, Sr. and Sevilla Chatfield Sproul. In 1941, after growing up on his father's ranch, Elmer moved to Albuquerque, where, as the "Culligan man" for NM and El Paso, TX, he began a business career that ended with his retirement in 1997. He was a graduate of the U. of New Mexico (1945) and of Stanford University Law School (1949). While Elmer was attending college at UNM and Stanford, he successfully expanded his Culligan business into the homebuilding business. In the early 1950's his father and brother joined him as partners in the homebuilding enterprise, which was expanded from NM into CO, TX, CA and NV. Altogether the Sproul family companies built more than 20,000 houses and apartments between 1952 and 1985. In 1949, Lesley Anne Griffith and Elmer were married, resulting in four children: Peter, Robin, Hilary and Amy, all of whom survive - Peter and his wife Candace, residing in Round Rock, TX, Robin and his wife Mary, in Albuquerque, Hilary and her husband Leslie Shepherd, in Vienna, VA, and Amy and her husband Larry Ausherman, in Placitas, NM. Four adult grandchildren also survive. Lesley, from whom he was legally separated in 1990, survives and lives in Albuquerque. Elmer is also survived by a sister, Beverly, who resides in Fallbrook, CA. There was no memorial service and Elmer and his family have requested that no flowers or gifts be sent.
