Obituary for PADILLA

JOE E. 1932-2011 Joe E. Padilla, age 79, born in Abo, NM, and a resident of Belen, NM, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Joe proudly served in the United States Army for two years in the Korean War as a radio operator. He was a retired AT&SF/BNSF railroad conductor. Joe also worked part of his life as a carpenter. For many years, he was very active in participating in district, state, and national Senior Olympics competition. He recruited numerous people to participate in the county Senior Olympics. Joe was once recognized by the Valencia County Commission by their proclamation of "Joe E. Padilla Day" in the county for his contributions to the county Senior Olympics. He loved playing guitar and played bass guitar with the Los Alegres band. He was active at the Belen Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Tafoya Padilla; father, Severo Padilla; mother, Manuelita Esquibel Padilla and sister-in-law, Delores Tafoya Bean. Joe is survived by his son, Kenneth Padilla of Cedar Crest and his dogs, Jody and Wedo. He is also survived by Tobias Padilla and wife, Laura of Barstow, CA, Lovelia Jojola and husband, Andres of Albuquerque, Aurelio Padilla and wife, Dolores of Belen Herman Padilla and wife, Eloisa of Belen, Virgie August and husband, Tony of Belen, Tomas Padilla of Jarales, Manuel Esquibel of Phoenix, AZ; faithful friend, Martha Trujillo and her family; sister-in-law, Rose Tafoya Andrews and husband, Ken; brother-in-law, Danny Tafoya and wife, Angie and god-daughter, Valerie Tafoya Rino. A Viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, September 5, with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A Final Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Floyd Riddle, Dennis Meister, Silvestre Castillo, Wilfred Tabet, Tom Martin, Colleen Wallace, Jim Montoya, and Frank Esquibel. Honorary Pallbearers will be his brothers Tobias, Aurelio, Herman, Tomas Padilla and Manuel Esquibel and brother-in-laws, Andres Jojola and Tony August.
