Obituary for WILKIRSON

WILLIAM BENJAMIN Age 86, died Wednesday June 8, 2011. William was born in Venus, Texas on June 11, 1924. He served in the United States Army in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he went to work at Los Alamos National Laboratories. In 1950 he moved to Albuquerque where he worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and later for the Department of Energy. In September of 2010, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Martell Lambert Wilkirson. He was also preceded in death by his son, Pete Wilkirson; his parents, Myers and Mary Grace Wilkirson; his brothers Charley, Myers, Robert, and Sidney; and his sister, Mary. He is survived by his son Adam Wilkirson and wife Tina; daughter, Karen Wilkirson and partner, Cathy Sierra; grandchildren, Ryan Wilkirson, Jacob Wilkirson, Casey Guilfoyle, and Mimi Sierra-Wilkirson; and many nieces and nephews. Wilk was funny, smart, and he could fix anything. An avid sports fan, he always supported his Cowboys, Dodgers, Lakers and Lobos. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 8, 2011, 4:00 p.m., at the Cathedral Church of St. John, 318 Silver Ave SW. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cathedral Memorial Fund or the Special Olympics.
