NANCY LOU HAMILTON October 29, 1930 - July 13, 2011 Nancy Lou Hamilton Leonard, 80, passed away Wednesday morning, July 13, 2011. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Edward Leonard; sons, Scott and wife, Christina, and Alex and wife, Deborah. She delighted in the four grandchildren who also adored her: Scott, John, A.J. and Courtenay. Born on October 29, 1930 in Grand Rapids, MI, Nancy was a 6th generation descendant of Alexander Hamilton. She attended Hillsdale College, where she pledged Chi Omega Sorority. While teaching elementary school in Denver, she met her future husband, Edward. They were married in 1959. The Leonards moved to Albuquerque shortly thereafter, and Nancy continued her career with Albuquerque Public Schools for 24 more years before retiring in 1985. Nancy was very active in the First Congregational Church, where she taught Sunday School, acted as Deacon, and participated in the Discipleship Prayer Group and Circles of Concern. In later years, she and Edward volunteered at the thrift shop at Central United Methodist Church. Nancy and Ed fostered close knit and loving family ties. All the children and grandchildren gathered each week for a family dinner and celebrated life's milestones together. She will be sorely missed.
