Obituary for MONTOYA

Lester Montoya was born February 10, 1925 in Seboyeta, New Mexico, to Andres Montoya and Dolores Gonzales. He passed away Monday, May 16, 2011. Lester was raised in Gallup, NM, where he boxed for Golden Gloves and worked for his dad, who had the mail contract. He Honorably served his Country in the US Navy during WWII and Vietnam, and later retired from the United States Postal Service, as Postmaster, in Old Laguna, NM. Lester then went on to teach school in Canoncito and Bernalillo High School. He was preceded in death by his son, Jaime Montoya in 1989 and by his beloved wife of 53 years, the love of his life, Elizabeth, in 2009. Lester is survived by his daughter Andrea Cisneros and husband Ron; his son, Lester Montoya and wife Michelle; brother, Andy Montoya; sisters, Margaret Gunderson and Joann Hetrick; four grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with US Navy Honors. A reception will then take place at the Rehabilitation Center of Albuquerque, 5900 Forest Hills Drive NE., in Albuquerque at 12:30 pm. Pallbearers will be Lester Montoya, Nathan Montoya, Ron Cisneros, Carlos Contreras, Andy Hetrick and Drew Yoder. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rehabilitation Center of Albuquerque and Miss Lucille, who cared for Lester.
