Obituary for LOCKWOOD

Thomas J. "Tom" Lockwood, 86, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011 after a brief illness. Tom is survived by his wife of 43 years, Julianne; brothers, Dwight (Helen) Lockwood of Seminole, FL, and Leon Ward Lockwood, Jr. (wife Betty recently deceased) of St. Petersburg, FL; sister-in-law, Jane Lockwood of Cadillac, MI; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Ward and Maude Lockwood; brothers, Joseph Lockwood and Walter Lockwood; and sister, Winifred Tidwell. Tom was born in Ionia, Michigan on October 12, 1924. He served as a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps in WWII and retired as Captain from the United States Air Force Reserve in 1970. Tom was a graduate of Michigan State University and received a Master of Arts degree from Denver University. He was a devoted educator, serving as a teacher, principal, director of Federal Programs and administrator during his 32-year career at Albuquerque Public Schools. Tom was a bibliophile and was active in political, civil rights and humanitarian causes. Tom's family wishes to thank the nurses, therapists, and physicians of the Lovelace Medical Center 7th floor for their expert skill and loving care. At Tom's request, there will be no services. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011.
