Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday May 13, 2011

Esther Louise Naus, 90, a resident of Albuquerque, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 8, 2011. She was born in Ohio on a farm on the coldest day of that year, January 24, 1921 to Guy and Estella Chapman. Esther went to beauty school, eloped and was secretly married to Melvin Joseph Naus on June 10, 1939. They announced their marriage one year later after she graduated from beauty school. On their 50th anniversary, her children gave them a big wedding to renew their vows. Esther was involved in Cradle Role at First Baptist Church and was later active in the choir and the prayer room with her husband at Hoffmantown Church. She held Good News clubs in her home for children. She loved the Lobo basketball girls because she used to play basketball herself in high school. She was involved with Christian Women's Club in Albuquerque and also sold Avon for 30 years. She loved playing bridge, canasta, and solitaire and also loved square dancing, bowling, and being involved with youth at Pea Ridge Baptist Church in Ona, WV. She was also involved in the Wycliffe Bible Translators and housed many missionaries. Esther lived in Ohio, Las Vegas, NM, Albuquerque, NM, Mesa, AZ, Prescott, AZ, and Ona, WV. She and her husband traveled yearly to Ohio to the Chapman reunion. They loved to travel and went on several cruises and saw Israel, Panama Canal, Alaska, England, Scotland, Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico, Jordan, and traveled to many states in the United States and her refrigerator was covered with magnets from the places they had traveled as well as those given to her by family. She was known for her cooking, especially her chicken and noodles. Esther loved the Lord and portrayed Christ to her family and friends by serving them and always offering a smile, a hug, a kind word, and her prayers for everyone. Esther is survived by five children, Jeanne Siler and husband, Phil of Albuquerque, Jerry Naus and wife, Julie of Albuquerque, Guy Naus and wife, Diane of Prescott, AZ, Debbie Clark and husband, Willard (Buddy) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Janet Adams and husband, Steve of Prescott, AZ; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Vona Batdorf of Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin in 2004; parents, Guy and Stella Chapman; four sisters, Reba Moninger, Thelma Silverthorn, Hazel Good, Mae Belle Boros; one brother, Glen Chapman; and two grandchildren, Melvin Siler and Glenda Hilgar. Friends may visit French - Wyoming Chapel on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Entombment will follow at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. We want to thank the entire staff at Pleasant Valley Adult Care in Prescott, AZ for their deep love and care for our mother, Esther, until she left all of us for her eternal home in Heaven. Mother's favorite verse was John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotton Son (Jesus) that whosoever would believe in Him would not perish but have everlasting life in Heaven." Her desire was that all would come to know the Savior that she loved so much.
