Obituary for BRINCK

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Friday May 13, 2011

Elizabeth Brinck Betty W. Brinck, keeper of the flame, rock of the family, dearest Mother and truest friend, completed her journey through life on Friday, April 1, 2011. She was born on April 26, 1922 to Herman and Mary Witte in Seattle, Washington, and grew into a fine woman of decency and faithfulness and true grit. Following graduation from Lincoln High School, Seattle, Washington, in 1940, Betty married her high school sweetheart, Richard G. Brinck, on February 4, 1943. Dick was then a lieutenant in the US Army Air Corps. After the end of World War II, they lived in Wrangle, Alaska and Seattle, Washington. Dick was recalled into the US Air Force at the start of the Korean conflict (1952) and Betty spent the next 15 years as an Air Force wife and lived in Texas, Florida, Kansas and New Mexico. She and Dick made many friends during those years who became "family." One "family" friend, Maryruth Weyand, recalled that with Betty there was nothing but truth and honesty and calling a spade a spade. In 1967, Dick retired from the Air Force, and they moved to Bellevue, Washington and Betty maintained a home with a beautiful big yard there until her death. She enjoyed gardening, reading and playing bridge. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Brinck; her daughter, Barbara Brinck Disco; her son, Richard R. Brinck; her mother, Mary Gates Witte; her father, Herman C. Witte; her brother, Donald C. Witte; her sister, Suzanne Turner; and her brother, Calvert Witte. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra J. Brinck and Cynthia A. Brinck Simmonds, seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A private memorial service was held at Evergreen Washelli Cemetery in Seattle, Washington, on April 30, 2011, followed by a celebration of life at the family home in Bellevue, Washington. Betty sends her love to her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Betty's name to the Salvation Army, NW Division, 111 Queen Anne Ave. N., Seattle, Washington 98109 or to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Contributions JF-200, P.O.
