Obituary for ROSE

Evelyn Rita O'Brien Rose 96, a resident of Albuquerque and previously of Los Alamos, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 Devine Mercy Sunday. Evelyn was born in West New York, New Jersey in 1914. She grew up in Cornwall on the Hudson, New York just outside of West Point, New York. There she went to high school with Jesse T. Rose. They became sweethearts and graduated together from high school. Jesse was class president and Evelyn was class valedictorian. After Jesse joined the Navy, Evelyn went to the New York State Teacher's College at Albany, where she graduated. In 1938 Jesse and Evelyn were married at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Cornwall. They came to Los Alamos and made their home there in 1947. They always loved New Mexico and its people. While Jess was a policeman, Evelyn taught school in Los Alamos. Jess was Chief of Police in the 1960's and during the visit of President Kennedy to Los Alamos in 1963 was very involved in the President's security. Evelyn taught American history and French and other subjects at Los Alamos High School. In 1975 they retired to Albuquerque where Jess passed away in 1993. He was buried at Guaje Pines in Los Alamos. In 1995 Evelyn returned to her beloved Los Alamos where her heart remains to the present. Evelyn and Jess's surviving family members are Patty Rose Bonilla and husband Hugo of Albuquerque and their children , Evelyn and Isaac Montanez and Marta Bonilla Orr and her husband Jesse, Peggy Rose Harman and husband Jim of Lubbock, Texas, and their sons Andrew and Douglas, Kathy Rose Bamberger and husband Miguel of Austin, Texas and their children, Eileen Rose B. Youens and husband Kenneth and daughter Clara Elizabeth, age 18 months, Rose Marie B. Chavez and husband Tony and son, Tomas Miguel Chavez. Public visitation will begin on Friday May 6, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart Of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos with recitation of the rosary to be followed by the Chaplet of Devine Mercy to begin at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday May 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. also at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Lectors for the Mass are the granddaughters, Evelyn Bonilla Montanez and Marta Bonilla Orr. Family members bringing the gifts to the Altar are, Miguel and Kathleen Rose Bamberger, and Evelyn's granddaughter; Rosemarie Bamberger Chavez and husband Anthony Thomas Chavez and Evelyn's great-grandson; Tomas Miguel Chavez, age 2 months. Interment will take place at the Guaje Pines Cemetery with her grandsons and grandson's-in-law serving as pallbearers; Andrew and Douglas Harman, Isaac Montanez, Anthony Thomas Chavez and Jesse Orr. Named as honorary pallbearer is, Kenneth Youens MD. The family expresses special thanks to caregivers; Lorraine Barela, Connie Garcia, Kim Jones and all staff of Beehive Home and Vista Care Hospice. Memorial donations may be made to Casa Angelica in Albuquerque, Family YMCA in Los Alamos and Friends of Los Alamos Senior Center. The family of Evelyn O.
