Wayne D Olson, 85, passed away at his daughter's home on April 22, 2011 from complications of myasthenia gravis. Wayne was born in Valley City, ND, where he spent his early years working at the family owned dairy delivering milk every morning before school. While serving in the Navy during WWII, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Doris McIntyre. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Washington with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Wayne worked for Sylvania in Boston and Honeywell in Minneapolis before moving to Albuquerque in 1958 to work for Sandia National Laboratories. Wayne and Dorie volunteered for over 20 years for Meals on Wheels and were active members of Faith Lutheran Church. He enjoyed spending countless hours with his grandson, Nick, teaching him to use woodworking tools, car-pooling, traveling cross country, and never missing a sporting event. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of almost 67 years, Dorie, son, Michael and his wife, Millie, of Rio Rancho, daughter, Kathy, of Albuquerque, four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: Nick Gonzales, his wife, Andreana, and their daughter, Alexis, of West Chester, OH, Teri Niday and her children, Stephanie, Emily, Liam, and Madison, of Rio Rancho, Christine Valdez, her husband, Jesse, and daughters, Liliana and Olivia, of Rio Rancho, and Aaron Niday and his children, Jeremiah, Kylee, and Morgan, of NV; sister, Judy Skare, of Mesa, AZ, sister-in-law, Jeanette Putnam, of Bolivar, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Delia Olson, and his brothers and their wives, Wallace and Minnie Olson and Delfred and Doris Ann Olson. He touched all of their lives in so many ways as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His unwavering love and concern for others, his sense of humor, and his lifelong commitment to living his life with honor and integrity will be remembered by all who knew him. In keeping with his generosity to others, Wayne has donated his body to medical research in the hope of finding a cure and better treatments for myasthenia gravis. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staffs at the Presbyterian Infusion Center and Presbyterian Hospice for their loving and excellent care provided to Wayne during his illness. Contributions may be made in Wayne's memory to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America, Inc. or Presbyterian Hospice Program.
