Obituary for ABEYTA

Alfred Abeyta, 89, passed away at home on Thursday, April 28, 2011, of natural causes. A lifelong New Mexico resident, he was born in Palma, resided in Encino and Vaughn, and moved to Albuquerque in 1955. He was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Frances and numerous brothers and sisters. Survivors include daughters, Mary Tafoya and husband, Eloy of Albuquerque, and Pat Abeyta of Arlington, VA; grandsons, Stan and Matt Tafoya of Albuquerque; sisters, Sally Rael and husband, Joe of Albuquerque, and Isabel Alarid and husband, Ben of Encino; numerous nieces and nephews; and dear partner and friend, Elma Espinoza of Albuquerque. A veteran of WWII, Alfred arrived in Normandy the week after D-Day, and also served in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was a member of VFW Post 13 and a lifelong patriot who loved God, family, and our country above all else. He is remembered by all who knew him as an uncommonly kind, gracious, and generous soul whose heart and home were always open to friends and family. There will be a private viewing and prayer offering for family members from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, May 1, 2011, at French - Lomas Chapel. Rosary will be recited Monday, May 2, 2011, 8:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 9:00 a.m., at the Cathedral of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE.
