Obituary for UMSTEAD

William C. Umstead, SMSGT (RET), age 82, passed away on April 14, 2011 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born to William E. and A. Helen Umstead in Quakertown, PA. William served his country proudly in Korea and Vietnam for the United States Air Force in the Military Security Police field. After retirement, William spent about ten years working for Sandia National Labs as a Security Police Officer. He met his wife, Vida, while stationed in Morocco. William loved Jazz music and was a member of the Outpost Performance Space; and for a period of time he was a Jazz DJ for KUNM. William was an avid supporter of music and arts in New Mexico and contributed his time to such activities. William is survived by his two sons, Matthew Umstead and wife, Barbara, and William R.J. Umstead. Three grandchildren: Sean, Amanda and Cassandra. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Umstead and John Umstead, one sister, MaryAnne Heise and husband, Dave. William is preceded in death by his wife, Vida A. Umstead. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the prayer vigil on Thursday, April 28, 2011. The Prayer Vigil will be recited on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 7:00 pm, French Mortuary - Lomas Chapel. The Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 10:00 am, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona SE. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
