Obituary for BISHOP

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 24, 2011

Walter Homer Bishop "Papa" of Albuquerque, New Mexico went to be with Jesus Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Born May 2, 1925 in Malden, Massachusetts to Homer and Margaret Bishop, he was the very definition of a good man. At 17 years old he willingly served the United States Coast Guard, later to be called the United States Navy. He, being a true patriot and man of honor, fought in the Pacific during WWII and lived to fight in the Korean War. At 28 years of age, Walter married his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Sally Arlene Bishop. He was a loyal and devoted husband. He'd say, "mama says, daddy drives." He and Sally raised four children in Syracuse, New York; Donald and Thomas Bishop, Tammie DeSeyn and Robin Coletta. He was a kind, gentle father. A good man makes a great dad. Walter worked for 38 years as a plumbing and heating salesman. He never met a stranger and he'd give you the shirt off his back. He'd have a beer and swap out on cares with ya'. "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy." Walter is predeceased by his father, mother, and three brothers; Thomas, Paul, and Bobby Bishop. Walter is survived by his sister, Margaret Minisalco of Massachusetts, his wife, his children, nieces, nephews, his 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Walter Bishop's viewing will be held at the Lomas French Mortuary in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. There will be a graveside service at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011.
