Roy Jim Hunton was born on July 22, 1952 and went to meet God on April 14, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen Jo Hunton and brother, Jack Hunton. Roy grew up in Clovis, New Mexico where he graduated from Clovis High School, earned a Bachelor of Education Degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, New Mexico and a Masters Degree in Education from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. Growing up, Roy learned carpentry from his father and personally built the family's cabin in the mountains above Taos, New Mexico during summer vacations. He turned his love of carpentry into a lifelong passion by teaching the building trade's class for the E.C.I.S.D., also designing and building not only his home but several other homes for friends. Roy retired from the E.C.I.S.D. after 25 years of service including coaching, teaching history and building trade's classes. Roy loved his animals, all outdoor activities and working out. Running, swimming, scuba diving and snow skiing were some of the activities he enjoyed. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Kiwanis International. Roy is survived by wife Kelli; brother Joe Hunton and family of Albuquerque, N.M.; brother Leroy Hunton and family of Albuquerque, N.M.; and sister Johnna Bishop and family of Virginia. The family wants everyone to know that Roy was a beloved son, brother and husband. They request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Humane Society of Odessa or the donor's favorite charity. Graveside services will be privately held in Clovis, New Mexico. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and online condolences may be sent to the family at acreswestfuneral.com.
