Obituary for GREEN

A. Gregory Green, age 65, passed away March 29, 2011 after his valiant courage in living with COPD lung disease. He was born on November 23, 1945 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was the son of Ronald Conrad Green and Josephine MacBeth Taft and married Shirley Butenhoff Scott, M.D. on April 25, 1992. R. Gregory Green was certified as both a Senior Professional in Human Resources and a Global Professional in Human Resources. He was a senior HR consultant to local and national businesses, specializing in strategic, tactical and operational implementation involving human assets. Mr. Green also served as a third party corporate ombudsman and certified mediator working with employers and employees in the resolution of workplace issues. Most recently he was owner and Chief HR Officer at North Star Human Resources and was Senior Advisor at Strategic Development Worldwide out of San Diego. A resident of Santa Fe, Mr. Green was a graduate of Brown University and the Rhode Island School of Design. He attended Harvard University Special Courses and Loomis Chaffee Preparatory School in Windsor, CT. He was a U.S. Army Engineer Officer Candidate School graduate at the end of his service at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. where he was awarded a Joint Commission Medal. Mr. Green served on the National Board of Directors of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and on the Board of Directors of the SHRM Global Forum. He was a key contact to the National Skill Standards Board in Washington, D.C., was a registered member of the New Mexico Mediation Association, and was the 2006 Chair of the Board of Directors of the Human Resource Certification Institute. He was the recipient of the SHRM State of New Mexico Award for Professional Excellence in 2000 and was the Past State Chair of the Job Service Employers Connection of the New Mexico Department of Labor. He was also proud to be a member of the Society of Cincinnati, and the Native American All Nations Stronghold, with whom he was a shaman (Standing Green) and pipe holder. In addition to his active professional life, Gregory loved being part of the Santa Fe community and had many friends who appreciated his combination of charm, warmth, keen intelligence, quick wit, sense of humor and generosity of spirit. He was also known around town for his gentlemanly, dapper sense of style and impeccable taste. Gregory is survived by his sisters: Cornelia "Keena" (Park) Palmer and son, P.K., of Providence, RI; Kate (Peter) Vibert of South Carolina, daughters Jennifer Chapin of R.I. and Suzanne Chapin Larsen and daughter Devan of New Jersey. His stepsisters, Sara (Anthony) LeFleur of Toronto, Canada and children, Melissa Polidori of Toronto; Anthony (Maya) Smith of Toronto; Allison (Mark) McCarthy and children, Dillon, Grace and Prince of New York; Elizabeth (Terry) Hudson of Colorado. Sister-in-law, Beverly Butenhoff Kaufman of Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Green's children: Dana (Don) Cataldi and children, Sophie, Isabella, Lily and Ryder of Los Angeles, CA; C. Taft Green (Laura Riboli, partner) of Los Angeles, CA and mother Joan Carter Green (Jerry) Martin of Los Angeles, CA; Stuart (Aiyana) Green of Ashland, OR; Josephine "Bay" (Jesse) Green-Hill and children Stella Jo and Mosely of Siloam Springs, AR and mother Clair Stuart Green of South Dakota; stepdaughter, Lisa Charles (Neal) McDonald and children James and Lilly of France. Marcia Taylor, dear family friend and Assistant to Dr. Scott and the household of Santa Fe, NM. Gregory was a devoted husband, father and friend and loved his dogs - Rhody and Spirit (deceased) and Osa Maria and Arka Linda (present). His generous spirit will be remembered by all whose lives he touched. Contributions in Gregory's memory can be sent to the R.
