Obituary for DALE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 03, 2011

Leona Dale was born on a farm in East Texas to tenant farmers. Leona moved with her family in a covered wagon across Texas at the age of five. She grew up working hard in the fields. The first in her family to attend college during the Depression, she left school to work as a secretary, supporting herself for ten years until marrying Charles Dale, a decorated World War II Veteran. With her support he completed his undergraduate and law degrees. She had three daughters and returned to college when they started school, completing her PhD in English in 13 years. Leona worked as a college professor (at Texas Tech University and South Plains College) until she retired and turned her attention to her love of art. She was an accomplished artist, seamstress, cook and gardener. Her passion for education has carried on with her three children and four grandchildren, all of who have obtained college degrees. Leona enjoyed family and was truly accomplished woman who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband Charles Dale; daughters, Mary LeBlanc and husband Paul, Kathleen Colarusso and husband Charles, and Patricia Williamson and husband Steve; her grandchildren, Janice Riggins and husband Shawn, Karen LeBlanc, Candace and husband Kristopher, David Colarusso and wife Jessica; great-grandchildren, Oliva Riggins, Annalise Natoli. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice or Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Services are pending and will be announced on our website. Those who wish to express their condolences may visit www.danielsfuneral.com . Leona's care has been entrusted to: Daniels Family Funeral Services Alameda Mortuary 9420 Fourth Street NW Albuquerque, NM 87114 (505) 898-3160
