Obituary for COHEN

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday April 03, 2011

Bernard R. "Barney" In Memory 10/21/21 - 4/2/86. He was born in Chicago, the eldest son of three boys of an immigrant from Odessa and mother from Chicago, and where he became an outstanding flutist and letterman at Wells High. He finished high school at Phoenix Union in Phoenix, Az. He attended Phoenix College with the ambition and ability to become a chemical engineer, but unfortunately could not afford to continue. He was very proud to be a "furniture man," always putting his customer's interests first, but was most proud of his wife Selma; their two children; and their two grandchildren. All of his descendants of age obtained graduate degrees from fine universities, and went on to enjoy successful careers. He loved baseball (always respecting catchers), reading the paper (including the comics), playing with his grandsons, taking sheet metal courses, and studying physics. He instilled a lifelong love of dogs in all of his family, beginning with his beloved "Jazzy." He also instilled the importance of education in everyone. He was a member of Congregation Albert where he is commemorated by the Cohen Family Garden. He is thanked and thought of daily and is dearly missed. May he rest in peace.
