Martha "Marty" M. Steffens, 88, of Medina, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Samaritan Care in Medina. Born on June 22, 1922 in Medina to Chester Wallace Ryan and Bertha (nee Randall). Martha followed her father's footsteps; he was the Assistant US Postmaster in Medina and she was a dedicated US Mail Carrier in rural Medina retiring after 40 years. During World War II, she assisted the war efforts as a "Rosie the Riveter", building "Corsair" US. Navy fighter planes at the Goodyear Akron Plant. Martha married Maynard in 1950 and was a devoted mother. She enjoyed reading, traveling in their motor home, and was an avid Cleveland area and OSU sports fan. She also drove the Medina Book Mobile and contributed to numerous wildlife and Native American organizations. Surviving her is her daughter, Kathy Steffens of Columbus, son Daniel W. (wife Terry) of Cuyahoga Falls, grandchildren; Emily, Dan, Anthony, Carmine, great grandchild Brooklynn, sister Mary Jane Bolton, nephew Dave (Marian) Bolton and other family members including her special friend "Willie the Cat". Preceding her in death, her husband Maynard in 2003. Friends may join the family for visitation on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 from 12 Noon to 1 PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road (Corner of Route 18 & River Styx Road), Medina. Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 317 E. Liberty Street, Medina, Ohio 44256. Fr. Eric Funston officiating. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. Special Thanks to the Samaritan Care Center for the care and kindness given.
