Obituary for CHAVEZ

David Chavez Jr. passed away with his family at his side on Friday, March 11, 2011. David was born in Albuquerque on July 31, 1929. He was preceded in death by his son, Darren Mark Chavez and his sister Emma Wilkinson. David leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Vi Nichols Chavez; his sons, David Chavez and wife Sandra, Eric Chavez and wife Kirsten. David was a grandfather to Rheanna Chacon, Eli Chavez, Amanda Chavez and Megan Chavez. He was also a great-grandfather to Alexandra Chacon and Samantha Chacon. David Chavez was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, having served in the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. David was a teacher for over 30 years with Albuquerque Public Schools, finishing his career at Highland High School. He was a member of the Rio Grande Carving Club and enjoyed the time he spent there. David was dearly loved and will not soon be forgotten. His family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the VA Health Center for the care they gave to him. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:00 AM at French - Lomas Chapel along with USMC honors. A reception is to follow the service at French.
