Arthur Akers, age 90, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2011. Art was born on September 23, 1920 in Iowa City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe and in Northern Africa. He was married to LaVerne Groll in 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church where they both were life-long members. He worked as a security guard on Kirtland Air Force Base and also worked at the commissary as a meat cutter. He is survived by his son, Roger of Portland, Oregon; his daughter, Mary Schiefer of Albuquerque and his granddaughter, Roxanne Schiefer of Albuquerque; his sister, Arlene Farness of Montrose, Colorado and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne on January 14, 2008.
