Obituary for RADTKE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday March 10, 2011

Carl R. "Dick" Radtke, an ardent husband, and devoted father, passed away March 3, 2011, at the age of 91. Dick was born June 3rd, 1919, in Weaver, Iowa. He answered the call of duty and served with the 34th Infantry Division "Red-Bulls" in World War II. He served with distinction and a reverence for life as a Combat Corpsman. Upon his return to Iowa after the war, he married Ruth Ann Peck and worked as the Van Buren County Assessor. He pursued endeavors in the printing industry that lead the family to Albuquerque, New Mexico. With his extensive experience in elections and county government, he started his own printing business, which he managed successfully up to his retirement. After the passing of his wife Ruth, he married Dawna Conrad Johnson, the two of them together affectionately became known by friends and family as "Mr. & Mrs. R", or "D & D" or "Grammy & Grampy". He was a devoted father to daughter Carla Pogemiller and husband Jerry; son Rick Radtke and wife Paula; step daughters Judy Nail and husband Bill, Cindy Brigham and husband Ronn; doting grandfather to three granddaughters, Kim Carrasco and husband Samm, Lauren "Nik" Radtke, and Jaymie Brigham; obliging great grandfather to two boys, Josh and Greg Carrasco. Dick was a man of great integrity with many interests that included: playing cards (and occasionally cheating though he'd vehemently denied it), playing dominos with friends, traveling the globe with his wife, and going camping in his R.V., with his wife and granddaughters. He enjoyed sports, especially football and basketball. He loved his "Bubbas" a Methodist men's church group, with whom he worshiped regularly. He was preceded in death by wife Ruth A. Radtke, brother Gurden Radtke, and son-in-law Jerry Pogemiller. He is survived by sister Grace Lytle of Washington, Iowa. Services will be held on March 12, 2011 at 11:00am at Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Light and Liberty Jail Ministries, PO Box 25932, Albuquerque, NM 87125. Please visit our online guestbook for Carl at www.RememberTheirStory.com.
