Obituary for HILL

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday February 10, 2011

Elaine F. Hill, 68, beloved wife of Dr. Leslie R. Hill for 47 years, died Tuesday, February 8, 2011 of complications following heart surgery. Her passing leaves a giant hole in the lives of all who were privileged to know her. Though small in stature, Elaine was a mighty force. There wasn't a problem or job that she didn't tackle with all her being. She loved everything Finnish and enjoyed sharing the culinary traditions of her heritage. She made the best chile pepper relish every Fall. No one who heard her sing would ever forget her angelic voice. And, no one had a better friend. The world is a lesser place without Elaine Hill. Born in Buffalo, NY, Elaine was the daughter of Waino and Aune Alve. She attended school in Spencer, NY and was a graduate of Trenton State Teachers' College in New Jersey. She married her childhood sweetheart, Les, on June 29, 1963. Prior to moving to New Mexico, Elaine taught high school English while Les finished a doctorate degree at Princeton. In October of 1967, the Hills moved to Albuquerque where Les held a position at Sandia National Labs until his retirement. A New Mexico Real Estate Broker for over 20 years, associated with Merit Real Estate, Camco Realty, and RECA Better Homes and Gardens, Elaine always went the extra mile for her clients. She was active in her Church Choir and enjoyed singing in theatrical events. The special joy in her life was her time spent with her grandchildren, Hayley and Lindsey Monsees and Lauren and Nathan Hill. Her father predeceased her. She is survived by her husband; children, Julie Monsees and husband, Geoff of Cary, NC and Joel Hill and daughter-in-law, Sally Bowler-Hill of Albuquerque; her grandchildren; mother, Aune Alve; sister, Sharon Davis; nephews, Jason and Will Libby; other relatives; and many, many friends. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Elaine's life will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to the Sandia Presbyterian Church Music Program or to Joy Junction, P.O. Box 27693, Albuquerque, NM 87125-7693.
