Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Thursday February 10, 2011

Marion Crissey, beloved teacher, civil rights activist, humanitarian and friend, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2011. She was 104. Marion moved to New Mexico in 1936 in hopes of improving her poor health. Her sister, Kathryn, joined her here and they both taught at Harwood Girls School throughout the 1940s, '50s and '60s. They also provided a home for many Navajo children so they could attend school in Albuquerque. Marion was active in the local civil rights and peace movements and various musical and cultural groups. Her deep appreciation of Nature, human nature, music and spirituality enriched the lives of hundreds of students and friends throughout the world. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at Harwood Art Center, 7th & Mountain Rd. NW. Following the service, the celebration of Marion's life will continue with a potluck reception. Donations may be sent to Harwood Art Center Scholarships, 1114 7th St. NW, ABQ 87102 or Fellowship of Reconciliation (the interfaith peace organization which meant so much to Kathryn & Marion), P.O.
