Obituary for BATESON

Lynn Christine Bateson began a new chapter of life on February 7, 2011 after a valiant 44-month struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis aka Lou Gehrig's Disease. She was born March 24, 1952 in Salem, Oregon. In addition to her beloved husband of 37 years Mike, she is survived by her children, Courtney Quinonez and husband, Fernando (Rio Rancho), Christian Bateson and wife, Connie (New York City), Kelly Bateson (Denver), Catherine Rose and husband, Devin (Austin), Jordan Bateson and wife, Tammy (Rio Rancho), Bethany Bateson (Tempe), Emmanuel Bateson (Rio Rancho), and Benjamin Bateson (Rio Rancho); 11 grandchildren, Nathan Quinonez, Adam Quinonez, Sophia Quinonez, Ava Bateson, Addison Bateson, Colby Bateson, Adele Rose, Tobias Rose, Leo Rose, Edmund Rose, and Nicholas Bateson; four sisters, Evelyn (Bill) Hamilton, Carol (Tom) Price, Kathy (Norm) Smith, and Debbie (Scott) Juul, and by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Wilma Fischer of Salem, Oregon. Lynn graduated from North Salem HS in 1970 and attended Chemeketa Community College graduating with an AA Degree in Nursing in 1972. She and her family moved to Deming, New Mexico in 1983 and to Rio Rancho, New Mexico in 2008. Lynn was a lifelong Roman Catholic who devoted herself to service and prayer. Before her illness robbed her of her voice and ability to play piano, she taught piano to children and led the Children's Choir at Holy Family Parish in Deming, NM. She was deeply involved in serving the poor and homeless through St. Vincent de Paul in Deming prior to her move to Rio Rancho in 2008. When asked by her children what her one wish was for them, she replied "Love God passionately." Lynn loved to camp in the Gila and Pecos Mountains with her husband and family. She was a voracious reader and loved to sew for her children and grandchildren. Lynn was widely recognized for her beaming smile and her glowing countenance to all she met. Even in the final days of her illness, she never lost her smile or her desire to comfort others. A Visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 2400 Southern Blvd SE, Rio Rancho, NM. A Rosary will be held Saturday, February 12 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd SE. Rio Rancho.
