Obituary for LINZIE

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday February 06, 2011

Elizabeth (Betty ) Aye Linzie gently passed away from cancer on 1-6-2011. She was able to spend one last Christmas with her family in New Mexico. Elizabeth was born to Durward and Alexandria Aye. She was raised in the Toledo Ohio area. Elizabeth was a cheerleader at Bedford High School in Michigan. She often spoke fondly of her high school pals. In 1949 she married Robert Linzie, and together they had five children. Their daughter Diane passed away as an infant. Together Betty and Bob built many houses in the Lambertville Michigan area. They enjoyed building and living in homes they constructed. In 1976 Betty and Bob moved their household to Rio Rancho, New Mexico, in hopes that the arid climate would sooth Betty's health conditions. Bob passed away in 1992. Elizabeth enjoyed working at Tidkies in Toledo and at JCPenney telemarketing in Rio Rancho. Elizabeth was an avid oil painter who loved landscapes and still life. She produced many pieces of art which have been divided between family and friends. Betty was a member of the Toledo Artists League and she learned her painting skills from Pete Beckman. Elizabeth also loved to dance. Her and Bob spent many years square dancing, and in her later years she joined the Solo Club in Albuquerque. Betty was a collector of antiques and took great pride in collecting the perfect piece of furniture to re-finish by hand. Elizabeth loved to travel and she spent many weekends looking for and finding the perfect ghost towns in New Mexico. She also traveled to Canada, Mexico and Ireland, to name a few places. Shortly before she was bed ridden, she traveled out west for three weeks with her life time friend Rita Pompili. They covered the west coast, from Mexico to Canada, visiting family and friends. She is survived by her sister Nanette in Nevada; her four children, Patty and Stacy in Florida, and Jennifer and Bil in New Mexico; as well as nine grandchildren; and two great-grandkids. Elizabeth was a unique person who will be missed by many.
