Obituary for GLIDEWELL

LTC (Retired) Donnie D. Glidewell - loving, father and grandfather passed away after a heroic three year battle against kidney cancer on January 29, 2011. He and his wife Frankie, were high school sweethearts, married for 42 years. Don is survived by two daughters, Tanya M. Glidewell and Tiffany Glidewell Hall (Cristopher); and grandchildren, McKenna and Noah; sister, Loretta Payment (Wally) and family; Alonzo, Billie and Charles Young; the Mansours, Groszhans and Kochs. Don was born to Roscoe Glidewell and Vera Glidewell Erickson in Arkansas in 1948 and grew up in Washington. He was an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin - receiving Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Industrial Engineering and later earning a Masters in Systems Mgmt from Webster University. Don proudly served in the US Air Force for 23 years - rising from the rank of Airman to LTC. His second career with Sandia Nat'l Labs lasted 19 years, recently retiring in Dec 2010. Don was proud to work in International NonProliferation of Nuclear Weapons, having many friends around the world, traveling to six continents. He was an avid reader, history buff, loved golf and playing poker with friends. Known as BadgerDon to his football buddies, he always anticipated the beginning of football season. Don gave of himself - mentoring family and friends, and young engineers in his field - always retaining a sense of humor. A special thanks for all the support from family, friends and Don's coworkers. Military graveside services will be held in Yakima, WA.
