Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Sunday January 30, 2011

Onieta Clemmons, 88, a resident of New Mexico since 1940, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011. She is survived by her two children, Woody Joe Clemmons and wife, Kay of Hamilton, TX and Nanette Bolden of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Kim Peterson and husband, Brett, Amy Sellers and husband, Jason, and Sara Sterba and husband, Nate; six great-grandchildren, Breely and Jack Peterson, Hannah and Carlee Sellers, Brian Lucero and Kaitlyn Sterba; and numerous other relatives and friends. Onieta was preceded in death by her husband, Woody Clemmons in 2007; and one brother, Blaine Qualls. Onieta was born in Parnell, TX on December 24, 1922 to Pete and Hazel Qualls. She married her beloved Woody in February of 1939 and they celebrated 68 years together. Woody's job took them to several locations in TX and in the late 1940's brought them to Roswell, NM (yes, they lived in Roswell during the infamous alien invasion)! Their first child, Woody Joe was born in December 1939, and in 1953, daughter Nanette was born. Woody's job with Malco Refinery brought them to Albuquerque in 1956. Onieta cherished being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was always involved with her kids and their school activities. She kept an immaculate house where her children and their friends were always welcome. Her cooking skills were sublime. She reminded her children often of how the Lord has blessed her with a wonderful life and how fortunate she felt. Since mid 2007 Onieta lived at Carestone Assisted Living where she enjoyed taking walks around the building, dining with her good friends, and playing trivia. Most of all she enjoyed being around her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at French Mortuary - Wyoming Chapel, Monday, January 31, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of the local Lions Clubs.
